Operating Principles of Ethylene Glycol Chiller Units

Introduction of Ethylene Glycol Chiller

An ethylene glycol chiller is a chiller unit that uses ethylene glycol as the coolant medium. Sometimes the cooling liquid needs to be below 0℃, and using water as a coolant would cause freezing. Adding antifreeze liquid can prevent freezing because ethylene glycol has antifreeze properties.

In an all-air system, when outdoor temperatures are too low in winter, it is challenging to use a cooling tower to directly supply cooling to the inner area. At this time, outdoor cold air can be used as the cold source, using ethylene glycol solution as the coolant medium, introducing the outdoor natural cold source indoors to supply cooling to the inner area. When heating is needed for the outer area and cooling for the inner area, the chiller unit is turned off, and a boiler or urban hot water continues to be used as the heat source for heating the outer area.

Working Principle of Ethylene Glycol Chiller

A plate heat exchanger is installed outdoors, and a fan introduces outdoor cold air into the plate heat exchanger. The ethylene glycol solution and the outdoor cold air exchange heat in the plate heat exchanger. The cooled ethylene glycol solution enters the air conditioning unit in the inner area, where it exchanges heat with the mixed air (air mixed after fresh air and return air). The mixed air is cooled, and after its temperature drops, it enters the inner area rooms, providing cooling to them.

The ethylene glycol refrigeration solution's temperature rises and returns to the outdoor plate heat exchanger, exchanging heat with the outdoor cold air again, lowering its temperature, and continuing to cycle. This heat exchange method is often used in heat recovery systems. Ethylene glycol exchanges heat with high-temperature exhaust air, and after the temperature rises, it enters the fresh air cabinet, preheating the fresh air. Thus, the heat from the exhaust air is recovered to heat the fresh air, saving electrical energy and reducing operating costs.

This method of using ethylene glycol solution as a coolant and introducing the coldness from outdoor air into the inner area is a very energy-efficient air conditioning method. Only a plate heat exchanger needs to be installed outdoors. During operation, the chiller unit is turned off; only the fan and the air conditioning unit are turned on to introduce natural cold sources into the inner area, saving electrical energy and reducing operating costs. However, in the process of using outdoor coldness to cool the inner area, the cold air needs to exchange heat with ethylene glycol, and then the ethylene glycol exchanges heat with the mixed air. After two heat exchanges, the cold loss is relatively large, and the heat exchange efficiency is generally less than 60%.

Introduction of PQZili Ethylene Glycol Chiller

PQZili's ethylene glycol chiller is mainly used for cooling in industrial and special sectors.PQZili's ethylene glycol chiller uses ethylene glycol solution as the cooling medium. Through the circulation system, it absorbs and carries away the heat, achieving a good cooling effect. In fact, PQZili's ethylene glycol chiller operates on the same principles as most industrial chillers, only the cooling medium is different.

PQZili's ethylene glycol chiller is primarily used to cool and maintain ultra-low temperatures required in industrial production processes. This equipment is typically used in industrial settings that require low-temperature environments, such as chemical processes, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and especially chemical processing situations.
